The Chairman of the Osun State Muslims Community (OSMC), Alhaji Mustafa Olawuyi, has said that Muslims in the state would usher in the new Islamic year of 1441 After Hijirah with special prayers today.
Olawuyi disclosed this yesterday at a press conference in Osogbo to herald activities marking this year Hijirah celebration by Muslims in the state.
He said the prayers would seek peace and tranquility for Osun State and Nigeria generally for the people to overcome the challenges of insecurity.
A special lecture and a colloquium organised by the OSMC to mark the new Hijirah celebration centred on issues of security in Nigeria.
Olawuyi said, “Muslims in the state will converge at the Osogbo Central Mosque on Friday to pray for Osun State and Nigeria as part of events marking this year Hijirah celebration.”
Lamenting that the number of Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers had dropped in public schools in the state, Olawuyi called on the state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, to employ more Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers for public primary and secondary schools in the state.
