Osun monarch Akirun buried with COVID-19 procedures

The late Akirun of Ikirun in Osun State, Oba Abdulrauf Olawale was buried at the palace on Friday by COVID-19 protocol officials in strict compliance with the procedures for burial of COVID-19 corpses.

A huge crowd gathered at the palace to watch the burial of Oba Olawale but the people were prevented from moving close to the corpse.

The state COVID-19 protocol officials that buried him also burnt the casket that they used in carrying the corpse of the late monarch.

He was buried in accordance with Islamic rites as prayers were observed by Muslim clerics, performed from a distance.

Oba Adedeji who died at the age of 78, was installed the Akirun of Ikirun in 1991.

The Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola commiserated with the immediate family of the monarch, his friends, associates and the people Ikirun over the death of the traditional ruler.

His first son, Babatunde Olawale, is the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology in the state.

Oyetola hailed the late traditional ruler’s leadership style, noting that Ikirun witnessed tremendous development during his reign.

According to him, Oba Adedeji demonstrated strong concern and commitment to the welfare of his people and the development of the town.

The governor said, “As a leader, Oba Adedeji cared for his people, demonstrated strong concern and commitment to their welfare and the development of Ikirun. During his reign, Ikirun witnessed tremendous development, peace and stability.

“The late traditional ruler was a respected father and a huge supporter of our Administration. We will miss him for his wise counsel, wisdom and courage. Baba will also be long remembered for his impacts, achievements and outstanding legacies.”
