The Osun State Government has declared Friday, as a public holiday to commemorate the new Islamic year, Hijrah 1444 AH.

The state’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Olalekan Badmus, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Badmus urged Muslims in the state to pray for the continued peace and progress of the state under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

He also urged Muslims to engage in spiritual soul searching in line with the essence of the occasion as exemplified by the virtues of the holy prophet of Allah, Muhammad, while on earth.

President of Osun State Muslim Community, Mustafa Olawuyi, urged Muslims in the state to acquaint themselves with the lunar calendar.

Olawuyi said the essence of Hijirah is to migrate from wrong to right, urging Muslims to imbibe the lesson.

Also, the Kano State Government, yesterday, declared Monday, August 1, 2022, as a work-free day to mark the beginning of New Islamic Year.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, congratulated all Muslims in the state on the spiritual significance of the occasion, which he said, calls for self-assessment.

He called on the Muslim community to use the occasion to seek Allah’s forgiveness, and pray for His intervention to salvage the nation from the lingering security challenges and improvement in the general wellbeing and progress of the state and the country in general.
