Osun guber: Jonathan woos Aregbesola’s town’s monarch for Omisore.
President Goodluck Jonathan has taken the campaign of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the August 9 gubernatorial election of Osun State to Ilesha,
the hometown of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Jonathan, represented by Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, was at the palace of the Owa-Obokun of Ijesha, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, on Sunday to woo the monarch for the PDP governorship flag bearer, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Sambo was accompanied by the governors of Delta, Gombe and Kaduna States, Emmanuel Uduaghan, Ibrahim Dakwambo and Ramalan Yero respectively; as well as PDP Deputy National Chairman Uche Secondus, Presidential Political Adviser Professor Rufai Alkali, among others.

The vice president specifically appealed to the traditional ruler and his subjects to ensure Omisore’s victory at the gubernatorial poll.

Noting the importance of the traditional institution in nation-building, Sambo said royal fathers, as custodians of cultures and traditions, are government’s partners in progress.

In his response, the royal father noted that though all contestants are his subjects, Omisore is his son.

He said he appreciated the federal presence in his domain, stressing that he and his subjects would “do the needful when the time comes, as a mark of appreciation of federal government’s efforts” in his domain.

The vice president had earlier held a meeting with some community leaders of Osun State at the Ideal Nest Hotel in Osogbo, the state capital where they pledged their loyalty to Jonathan’s administration and promised to vote for Omisore.

The Ife-born Senator Omisore and Governor Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are among the 20 candidates vying for the election.
