Factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state have agreed to work together in order achieve success in the gubernatorial election.
Eyitayo Jegede, chairman of the Osun State Reconciliation Committee, disclosed this when he submitted report of the committee to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, on Wednesday.
Eyitayo said the committee was able to extract commitments from all the factions, adding that they have all agreed that the only way to achieve success is to present a united front.
“We also recommended that NWC should follow up and show more interest in what is happening in Osun State, because Osun State is doable for PDP.”
Although the committee’s mandate covers the Lagos PDP crisis, Jegede said the committee concentrated on Osun because of the forthcoming Governorship election.
“We concentrated for now on Osun because of the governorship election coming on July 16, and we are quite hopefully because of what we have seen.
“I can tell you that the people of Osun are waiting. And they are quite anxious about this, expecting that come 16 (or)17 of July will usher in a new PDP administration in the state by the grace of God.
“What we are able to do is to bring the parties together, and we are able to bring them all around the roundtable. We spoke to all the stakeholders, we spoke to all the groups, we harmonise positions, ” he added.
In his submission, PDP acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum, commended the committee for the speedy response to the assignment.
Damagum said, “The assignment was really one of the best we can say in terms of reconciliation.”
