A traditional ruler in Osun State, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi on Saturday lauded the gallantry of the men of Osun State Command of Nigeria Police Force who foiled the armed robbery attack on the branches of Skye bank and Frist bank in Ikirun, Osun State on Friday.

Oba Akanbi also commended the state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola for his investiment in security in terms of procuring equipment for the security agencies in the state including the police which enable the policemen to face the armed robbers. He noted that the foresight of the governor who saw security as a major issue to be addressed ahead of everything helped the police on Friday; otherwise, the bank robbery would have been carried out with law enforcement agencies looking helpless.

The monarch, in a statement signed by his spokesman, Prince Dauda Abimbola, on Saturday said without adequate security, investments either local or foreign, would remain a mirage. He urged the state government not to relent in motivating the police and other security, adding that criminals too are employing new tactics to overwhelm their victims.

“I want to urge the government and the police to intensify efforts in the area of security. Our attempt to promote our culture through tourism would be a mirage if visitors feel unsafe. I also urge residents of the state to be vigilant and always cooperate with law enforcement agencies in their efforts to make Osun uncomfortable for criminal”

The monarch noted that the fact that Osun is impenetrable for criminals could easily be attributed to the foresight of Governor Aregbesola in considering security most paramount his heavy
investments in security equipment. “I am aware of about 25 highly sophisticated Armoured Personnel
Carriers provided for the police which could be seen on our roads in Osun. I am aware of many patrol vans and there is a sense of security because you see these highly motivated men and women of the police and other agencies prepared for their jobs.

“What happened in our state on Friday was test case again on the preparedness of our security agencies to combat crime. We must congratulate the government for this and we most salute the gallantry of the officers who showed confidence and prevented the men from their evil plot,” the Oluwo Said.
