The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State on Tuesday endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke as the candidate of the party in the 2026 gubernatorial election.
The party’s State Working Committee announced endorsement of the governor for a second term in 2026, foreclosing the possibility of a party primary election.
The PDP State Publicity Secretary, Ayodeji Areola said the party has decided that Adeleke should contest again for his second term.
Ayodeji “I have the directive of the party in Osun State to announce that there is no vacancy in Osun Government House come 2026. We declare today that the 2026 governorship ticket of PDP is for Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“The party took the decision because the governor has performed creditably well and has not betrayed the confidence reposed in him by the party and the people of Osun state”, Ayodeji noted.
In another development, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has instituted a suit against Gov. Adeleke of Osun at the Federal High Court, Osogbo, for allegedly appointing a member of the PDP as the chairman, Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).
ln the Suit No. FHC/OS/CS/2/2024, filed by APC counsel, Ayodele Kusamotu and obtained by newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday, the opposition party asked the court to set aside the appointment of Hasim Abioye as OSIEC Chairman.
The APC, in the supporting affidavit signed by Waheed Adeniran, its Assistant Secretary in Osun, contended that “The nomination and appointment of a partisan person as the chairman of the state electoral body offends law and would not guarantee credible local government elections in the state.
“That the new chairman, having been a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, will not be neutral and impartial in the local government election processes.
The party further urged the court to give an order setting aside or nullifying the appointment of the OSIEC chairman and removing him from office and position, among other requests.
The Osun APC Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, when contacted by a NAN correspondent, confirmed that the suit was instituted by the national headquarters of the APC in Abuja.
