NEC resolved among other things to review the National Social Protection Policy (NSPP) to “accommodate some emerging policy issues including pandemics, insecurity, and shock response Social Protection”.

According to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, more than 2.8 million people have been impacted by Nigeria’s worst floods in a decade, with 1.3 million displaced and hundreds of lives lost.

The Vice President is empowered to convoke NEC, a statutory body in the 1999 Constitution comprising state governors, to deliberate on key policy issues facing the country.

The resolutions of the NEC will be submitted to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for ratification in the coming days.
