Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will represent President Muhammadu Buhari at the African Union summit opening tomorrow in Kigali, Rwanda. The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, made this known in a statement yesterday.
The theme of the summit is “African Year of Human Rights with a Particular Focus on the Rights of Women.”
Akande said Osinbajo, accompanied by Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe among others, left for Kigali yesterday and would return on Monday. He stated: “The 27th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union is scheduled to hold from July 17 to 18, 2016 though a retreat of African Heads of State and Governments has been scheduled for July 16 ahead of the formal summit opening on Sunday.
He said: “The session has been preceded by the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) and the 28th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the Union at the ministerial level ending today (yesterday).”
