Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo has flagged off the 28th edition of National Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Clinic in Jigawa State designed to bring the business opportunities closer to the people.

Osinbanjo, who launched the programme in Dutse during a one day working visit to the state yesterday described SMEs as the engine room of the economy of any society.

He said the SMEs Clinic is a collaborative project between the federal government and state governments to avoid unnecessary delay and bottlenecks in the setup and development of businesses in Nigeria.

The Vice president reiterated the commitment of federal government to poverty eradication, growth and development by creating enabling environment for the development of big, medium and small enterprises in Nigeria.

Osinbajo commended Jigawa State Governor, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar for his prudent and exemplary leadership, which made Jigawa a pace-setter in agricultural and SMEs development in the country.

The Vice president had also during the visit commissioned road project and launched the distribution of  empowerment packages, including tractor and other agricultural implements to over 923 beneficiaries initiated by Jigawa State Government.

In her speech during the visit, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Ambassador Maryam Katagum said the government was supporting and building the capacity of small and medium entrepreneurs to improve their production and standard as such venture was very critical for the growth of every economy.

In his speech, Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar commended the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari for executing various projects and programmes to enhance the socio-economic development of the state.

He also thanked the Vice President for his consistent support and cooperation in handling programmes designed for poverty eradication, jobs creation, economic growth and development, which he said, Jigawa state had benefitted immensely from.
