Acting President Yemi Osinbajo says it is a tough challenge for the Federal Government to meet the needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the northeast.
Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement Friday, quoted him as saying this at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja Friday while meeting with the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Ms. Ertharin Cousin.
“So many people are in need, it’s a tough challenge, but we are committed,” the acting president was quoted as saying.
Osinbajo, who reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring normalcy to the lives of the IDPs in the northeast, stated: “We are working on how people can get back to their normal lives."
He also stated that the government was also working on how to help the children, "especially regarding education and housing."
He assured that the government would continue to secure places where the
peace had been restored.
Osinbajo described dealing with the security challenges as an ongoing task for the Federal Government.
According to him, "the threats will reduce hopefully even though the nature of asymmetric warfare is also well understood."
He acknowledged the support of the WFP in the northeast region especially to children and families, pledging more cooperation from the government.
Earlier, Cousin had noted that she visited to brief Osinbajo, extend the greetings of the United Nations Secretary General and commend the Federal Government for
the support given WFP in Nigeria.
