Oshiomhole denies plotting to return as APC chair

Immediate past national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed insinuation that he is plotting to return and lead the ruling party again.

Director-General (DG) of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) Salihu Mohammed Lukman, had accused Oshiomhole of frustrating the party’s caretaker committee to ensure that he was returned as the party’s chairman.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Oshiomhole said he was not ready to engage in a fight with the PGF DG.

The former labour leader visited the State House for the first time to meet President Buhari after the APC National Working Committee (NWC) which he led was dissolved on June 25, 2020.

He said: “You want me to engage in a fight with a pig? If you engage in a fight with a pig, the pig already is stained by its nature and you will wear your white garment, and in my own case, khaki to go and wrestle with a pig? I will not.

“So, what they don’t understand is that it is not the office of chairman that made me who I am. It is my pedigree from my days as labourer in the textile industry to be the general secretary of textile workers all over Nigeria and becoming the president of NLC.

“There is no village I go to that people do not know me and it is this that I used to override the godfathers in Edo State for two consecutive terms and even got the governor elected through elections; no violence before becoming the national chairman.

“So, it takes an empty brain to suggest that Oh! Oshiomhole wants to stage a comeback as the national chairman. For what? To go and do a reseat?” he said.

He said the DG was being used to attack him, saying Fayemi unilaterally appointed him (Salihu) as the DG.

The former Edo governor, however, asked President Buhari to provide security for the conduct of the September 19 governorship poll in Edo State.

He also urged security agencies to prosecute whoever violated the law among the APC and PDP members without fear or favour.
