Governor Samuel Ortom’s Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, Saturday maintained that he would not be distracted from carrying out his present responsibility following pressure on him to contest for the governorship of Benue State in 2023.
The governorship campaign posters of Akase, also bearing an inset of the image of the current Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in the state, Sir John Ngbede, as his would-be deputy, flooded social media recently.

Akase, in a reaction to the trending development, believed to have been orchestrated by various youth groups in the state, insisted that he would not bow to the pressure but would remain focused on his current job to serve the interest of his principal.
He said, “When these calls began, I issued two statements distancing myself from the campaign posters, social media posts and other outings by those championing the call on me to contest the 2023 Benue guber race.
“I told them that my principal, Governor Samuel Ortom, had given me a job and I was focused on carrying out the responsibility.
“I, therefore, do not need distractions about an election that is many years away.
“Those making the calls appear to ignore my press releases on the issue as it intensified and are increasing daily.
“I decided not to make further comments on the issue; and that’s my stand, even at this point. 2023 is in the hands of God.”
