Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Friday directed the teaching of indigenous languages across schools in the state.
Ortom, who gave the directive while declaring open the International Conference on Tiv Language in Makurdi; reiterated his administration’s support for the mother-tongue education in the state.
The governor who was represented by his Principal Special Assistant on Culture and Tourism, Tahav Agerzua, called on all citizens to support the Nigerian Education Policy that the language of the immediate environment be taught to the child in schools.
He urged the relevant authorities in the state to commence the implementation of the policy with the teaching of Tiv, Idoma, Agatu and Igede, assuring that they would receive the required support.
