Organisers of the annual Nigeria Cup which is a golf tournament put in place to mark the nation’s independence anniversary have promised to make this year’s edition a big spectacle.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 2023 edition, Akoni Olayinka Olafimihan, has said the committee is working very hard to ensure the tournament is staged without hiccups.
He said the competition is coming at a time Nigeria is in desperate need of unity so the ultimate desire is to do everything to foster unity among Nigerians.
To achieve the much needed unity in diversity, the planning committee has given the theme of this year’s competition as ‘fostering unity through golf’.

Olafimihan, therefore, urged members of Ikoyi Club, Corporate outfits and well meaning Nigerians to support the event.
“I want to personally thank every individual and corporate organisations for their support for the Nigeria Cup over the years. They have been the pillar of this competition.
“It is their support that has helped sustain the competition as the biggest amateur golf tournament over the years. We, therefore, want them to extend that same support to the organisers of this year’s event as well”, he said.
Played yearly since its debut in 1997, the Nigeria Cup is one of the most sought after competitions in Ikoyi Club 1938 and Nigeria at large.
