Organ Trafficking: Our politicians are demonic – Charly Boy

Nigerian Singer and songwriter, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has described Nigerian politicians as demonic.

He said this while reacting to the alleged conspiracy to harvest the organs of a child in the United Kingdom
by former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice.

The Ekweremadus were on Thursday remanded after appearing before a UK court on charges of bringing a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

The police had said the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

“[A] Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“[B] Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting,” the police said in a statement.

Tweeting in a mixture of pidgin and English, Charly Boy said, “Ekweremadu em daughter needed a kidney transplant in London, na so dem go pick one under 18 yrs person from one village give am passport to Britain. Alarm don blow, Ekweremadu arrested. All dis our politicians are so demonic no be here..”

The UK court has adjourned Ekweremadu’s trial till July 7, 2022.

Sue-Ellen Braverman, the attorney general of the England and Wales will decide within 14 days if the Ekweremadus will face trial over allegations of human trafficking in the UK.

This is because Damla Ayas, the crown prosecutor, told the court that part of the allegations against the couple took place in Nigeria.
