109 suspects arrested in wake of Jos PADP warehouse looting

The Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), maintaining peace and order in Plateau and some parts of Bauchi and Kaduna States, Sunday, paraded 109 persons suspected to have participated in the invasion of a warehouse in the Plateau State Agricultural Development Programme (PADP), in the early hours of Sunday.

The suspects defied the 24-hour curfew imposed on Saturday and broke into the warehouse located at the Dogon Dutse area of Jos North Local Government Area of the State.

The imposition of the curfew followed the breakdown of some warehouses in Jos and Bukuru where food items were carted away by residents of the area.

Daily Trust reported on Sunday how hundreds of people broke into the said warehouse and carted away bags of fertilizer and different farming tools.

Major Gen. Chukwuemeka Okonkwo, who paraded the suspects at the headquarters of the command in Jos, said the suspects were arrested with items looted the PADP warehouse.

According to the commander, the suspects destroyed the warehouse and stole fertilizers, chemicals generators, and other farming items.

A total 97 males and 12 females, they face prosecution.
