Chairman, House Committee on Water Resources, Sada Soli Jibia, has described the opposition to the Water Resources Control Bill as a deliberate mischief by some vested interests.
Addressing reporters at the National Assembly, he said majority of those against the bill did not understand its content and had not read it.
According to him, the bill is to provide statutory regulation on the use of water across the country.
He said the bill had no negative provisions against states and local governments or any section of the country.
“The bill is not new. It’s a combination of four Acts that have been in existence for the past 35 years in this country. So, we’re just consolidating them, improving them to come out with one legislation under the water sector.”
