Opposition parties asleep in Katsina — NCP chair

The Katsina State chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Abdulmumin Sani,  has berated opposition parties in the state for failing to live up to expectation of ensuring good governance in the state.
Sani, in a statement made available to newsmen in Katsina, noted that the over 18 opposition parties in the state ‘are sleeping’, thereby paving the way for the ruling APC government to do what it wants.
He said the opposition must be aware that it is their responsibility to correct the ongoing lapses in governance for the betterment of the people.
“It is my belief that there is complete absence of opposition in Katsina State. With the exception of few daring individuals who put their lives on the line of fire, nobody is talking. We must know that all these luxuries of life are secondary; what is of primary importance is to champion the plight of the cheated, deprived and emasculated individuals in the society; to defend the rights and privileges of the defenseless,” he said.
“My other understanding of opposition role in a democratic setting is to perform an oversight function on the day-to-day running of the affairs of the total populace of a given state or nation.
“It serves as a watchdog, in addition to giving inputs to the government in power that will serve as a catalyst in fashioning out policies that will impact positively on the people,” he added.
