The GOC, while speaking with newsmen during the West African Social Activities (WASA 2021) at the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, described the exercise as successful.
Represented by the commander of 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Abubakar Wase, the GOC noted that the exercise was able to record the arrest of criminals and recovery of arms, ammunition and drugs.
Earlier in his welcome address, the commander of 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Isa Abdullahi, noted that WASA was an age-long activity in the army that allowed soldiers and their families to interact in a relaxed atmosphere through series like tug-of-war, cultural dances and other entertainment.
Gen Abdullahi said, “The history of WASA could be traced to pre-independent days when the colonial authorities introduced WASA, organised every year to grant the request by soldiers to participate in their local cultural rituals owing to the diverse cultural inclination of West African soldiers.
During the event which featured a series of entertainment activities, female NYSC members defeated female soldiers in a tug of war, just as female soldiers were trounced by the wives of soldiers in the same exercise.
