Dear Sir,
I hope this message finds you well. I write to call your attention to the incessant road traffic accidents occurring at Malam-Inna junction along Gombe State University second gate.
Sir, in two days I’ve witnessed about two road traffic accidents at that junction. Although no life was lost but the degree of injuries sustained by the casualties was horrible. Some were taken to hospital in a stupor.
Within my few weeks of staying at Gombe, I observed that Malam-Inna junction isn’t the only place witnessing incessant road traffic accidents but an extensively huge number of roads in Gombe. This is because of the high rate of recklessness of motorists driving in the city of Gombe.
Motorists drive on high speed thereby jeopardising people’s lives and properties on daily basis. Most of the drivers don’t care to commit traffic offences. These problems are escalating day by day, and if care isn’t taken they will become a calamity to the good people of Gombe State.
Sir, as a father and commander in charge of the affairs of Gombe State, I believe you have a responsibility to protect your people. And protection of people isn’t limited to the extermination of criminality in the society but also to the eradication of every act that will likely affect the wellbeing of the people. And road safety falls into this category.
Your Excellency, there is a need to create a legislative framework that will govern the behaviour of road users in Gombe State. This should come through the establishment of new agency that will be saddled with the responsibility of enforcement of traffic laws among road users in the state.
The new agency should come up with practical traffic laws that align with those of FRSC to curtail reckless driving, traffic offenses and enhance both motorists’ and pedestrians safety in the state.
The creation of this agency will help in promoting the culture of respect and responsibility between road users. The agency should be charged with the responsibility of punishing traffic laws violators using fines, driver’s license seizure and prosecution. This will improve adherence to traffic laws and subsequently the state’s IGR.
The new agency, when established, will create jobs for the teeming Gombe youths. Furthermore, it will play a vital role in managing the flow of vehicles on busy roads in the state.
Traffic rules are necessities that governments must enforce to ensure secured and orderly atmosphere for their people.
Road safety is indeed paramount. As a concerned leader who genuinely cares for his people, I’m more than optimistic that you will urgently look into this matter and respond with necessary action.
Thank you and God bless.
