Onyeama to lead Nigerian delegation to 2018 AU summit

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama will lead the Nigerian delegation to the 11th Extraordinary Session of the African Union.

The summit is scheduled for 14th – 18th November, 2018 at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Executive Council Meeting of the Extraordinary Session is scheduled for 14th -15th November, 2018 while the General Assembly is expected to hold from 17th – 18th November, 2018.

Top on the summit agenda include, Review of the African Union Institutional Reform Process and Financing of the Union; according to a statement by George Edokpa, spokesperson, Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Others are General Overview of Partnerships and the mandate of the AU Development Agency (AUDA); African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM); and Strengthening the Political and Security Council.

Nigeria is committed to the reform process of the African Union and is expected to engage in fruitful discussions at the summit, the statement added.
