“Nigeria is a nation of many tribes and many states; we are all working for Nigeria.
“No matter where we come from, as a police officer, you should first think of what to do for Nigeria and the force and where you come from is immaterial,” Okiro said.
He recalled that Onovo was his course mate, adding that they became Deputy Inspectors General together the same year and shared strategies together on crime prevention.
Onovo thanked the President Umaru Musa Yar’adua for giving him the opportunity to pilot the affairs of the police, promising that he would not disappoint him.
No document was handed over to Onovo during the short ceremony. Weekly Trust gathered that Onovo will be wearing the DIG rank until his confirmation.
