The only surviving child of Wednesday’s fire tragedy in Ilorin where four siblings and their mother were burnt alive has died after surgery at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Daily Trust reliably learnt.

The deceased, Abideen, said to be about five year’s old, died around 1am in the early hours of yesterday after he had the surgery around 8pm.

The development has worsened the mental health of the father, Adigun, now the only survivor from a family of six before the incident after the latest news was broken to him.

He had since been returned to the Behavioural Unit of UITH after he went into a state of mental imbalance.

Confirming the incident, the chairman of Ifesowapo Community, Awodun Yinka, told our correspondent last night that the child has since been buried at Oke-Oyi cemetery, Ilorin.

He solicited the support of the government and public spirited individuals to come to the aid of the bereaved father and others who have lost properties to the incident.

When contacted, the PRO of UITH, Elizabeth Ajiboye, promised to find out and get back. Her response was still being awaited before the filing of this report last night.

The ill-fated fire incident which occurred around 10pm Wednesday initially saw late Abideen’s four siblings and their mother, Titilayo Oluwatoyin Adigun, burnt to death at their residence situated at Ifesowapo Community, behind F Division Police Station, Tanke, Ilorin.
