Following the escalation of crises in Jos, the Plateau State capital, where many students were allegedly killed in the University of Jos hostel, the Student Union Government (SUG), has said only one student died while three others sustained injuries during the attack.
In a statement by the SUG President, Pantu Fwangshak, the union said it is yet to confirm that over seven students were killed, saying the rumour being circulated is false.
“Sequel to the unfortunate unrest within the Jos metropolis, I wish to state with a heavy heart, that to the best of my knowledge, one student of University of Jos has been confirmed dead and one injured. Two other unidentified persons were also injured and are receiving treatment.
“I also want to use this medium to debunk the rumours making rounds that 7 students were lost in the incident. We urge all students to stay calm and be vigilant as, and we shall in due time make known to the public the full report of the situation,” the statement read.
It added that meaningful development can only take place in an atmosphere of peace, and therefore urged people in the state to live in peace with one another.
