President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing judicial reforms with determined support, emphasising that accountable judicial systems will strengthen democracy across the West African sub-region.
The president gave the charge on Thursday at a meeting with a delegation from the ECOWAS Judicial Council led by Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Chief Justice of Nigeria and chairman of the council, at the State House in Abuja.
Tinubu who was speaking as the Chairman of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government noted that he is committed to transformative democracy because “we believe the judiciary can protect democracy.”
Speaking on behalf of the ECOWAS Judicial Council, Justice Ariwoola emphasised the council’s commitment to facilitating the effective functioning of the ECOWAS judicial system.
