One step forward, two steps backward: Tale of Nigeria’s democracy

There are many roadblocks to a strong democracy in Nigeria at all levels of government, which includes a series of overlapping security, economic and political crises, rising level of poverty, unemployment among others.

What President Bola Tinubu should do first is to look at the possible ways to do away with the high rate of unemployment among the youth and the poverty which has been the major problem that causes millions of people to live in hunger.

As if that is not enough, he has also declared that the fuel subsidy has gone. The removal of fuel subsidy led to rising inflation, which has also raised the level of hardship in life. I could vividly remember during Goodluck Jonathan’s government, we bought one mudu of local rice at N350 and the foreign one was sold N500, maize at N150 compared to now when the price of local rice has risen to N1,800 and the maize also N1,200. Why is everything getting worse?

All these are a result of the inability of the government to do the right thing which is actually the reason that our democracy is fluctuating.

Nigerian universities recently increased tuition fees due to alleged poor funding from the federal government to make the impact obvious to the poor parent and their children, because this may force many students out of school and deny prospective ones from securing admission.
