One Million Boys: Portable will be arrested after investigation – Police

The Lagos State Police Command has said it is still investigating music star, Habeeb Okikiola well known as Portable, noting that the artiste will be arrested after investigation if he fails to turn himself in.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, had on Monday ordered Portable’s probe over his alleged ties to One Million Boys, a notorious gang terrorising Lagos and parts of Ogun State.

The controversial musician had in a video, which went viral on Monday, boasted of forming the gang and another notorious group known as Ajah Boys.

“Open your ears and hear me, Have you heard about Ajah Boys, One Million Boys, I’m their founder. Go and ask Sammy larry,” he spoke in Yoruba in the video which he eventually deleted.

The singer however retracted his statement hours later, saying that he was referring to his fans as One Million Boys.

Following his outburst, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Monday, said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police had been asked to investigate Portable.

“Sequel to the trending video of one Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable where he claimed to have formed the One-Million Boys cult group terrorising some parts of Lagos State, the IGP has ordered CP Lagos to investigate the indicting statement and take necessary legal action. This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society,” the statement read.

When contacted on Thursday for an update on Portable’s case, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the command had yet to conclude “preliminary investigation.”

Hundeyin however said Portable has a case to answer when the investigation is concluded.

“We are still doing preliminary investigation and afterwards he will have to report himself (to the police) or we will get him arrested,” the PPRO told Daily Trust.

Since he came to the limelight in December 2021 following the release of his song, ‘Zazu Zeh’, in which he featured top artiste and record label boss, Olamide, hardly a month goes by without Portable not being in the news for negative reasons.

He was mocked on Monday for congratulating the Osun State governorship winner, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after campaigning for the All Progressives Congress.
