One killed, many injured in clash between cultists in Lagos

One person was killed while many were injured when a fight broke out among suspected members of Aiye and Buccaneer at Ikosi area of Ketu in Lagos.

At least, 15 members of the two cult gangs were arrested in the clash which started around 6 am on Wednesday.

Several commercial tricycles and motorcycles were burnt in the fracas which grounded business activities in the area until the arrival of mobile policemen and policemen from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) who were able to restore normalcy.

It was learnt that the fracas erupted over the collection of levies from fruit sellers at Ketu market.

The police recovered two locally made pistols and several rounds of ammunition from the suspects.

It was learnt that some of the injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were treated and discharged.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Command has been able to restore normalcy to the Ikosi/Ketu area of Lagos State after the clash.

Adejobi said amongst those arrested are suspected members of Eye, Aiye and Buccaneer.

He said 15 suspects were arrested while two locally made pistols, some live cartridges and assorted charms were recovered from the suspects.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, deployed policemen including the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Taskforce to the area to quench the crisis and restore normalcy to the area.

“He also ordered that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet investigation.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the crisis was connected to the revenue generation at the Ketu fruits market, and efforts are in top gear to apprehend other fleeing members of the gangs that orchestrated a crisis in the area,” he added.

He said the Commissioner of Police has reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting crimes and criminality, especially cultism, in the state.

He stated that the command will harness all legitimate means to suppress cultists’ activities in the state.
