One killed, four injured as police repel bandits’ attack in Katsina

One person has been killed while four others sustained gunshot injuries as gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Danmusa town, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

A resident of the town, who would not mention his name, said the police intervened and repelled the attack that lasted for about 40 minutes, during which a cellphone charging shop was looted by the attackers.

The source said the attackers came around 8:30 pm on Saturday and started shooting sporadically in the town, killing one person and injuring one, adding that the deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites.

“The quick response of the security agencies helped in chasing out the attackers.

“They were not able to kidnap anyone, except one cellphone shop that they carted away all the phones brought by people to charge their batteries,” he said.

He said the four people injured were receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Danmusa.

Attempt to get police reaction on the incident at the time of filing the report proved abortive as the Police spokesman in Katsina, SP Gambo Isah, was not responding to calls.
