Suspected armed robbers on Wednesday killed a police officer during an early morning attack on the Union Bank branch at Egume, Dekina local government.

Daily Trust gathered that the policeman was killed during an attack on a nearby police station where the robbers went to get arms, before heading for the bank.

Sources said the robbers, numbering about nine stormed the bank shooting sporadically to gain access to the bank while customers scampered for safety.

The armed robbers were said to have operated for about one hour and that they succeeded in their operation before the arrival of security men.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of Kogi state command Elvis Aguebor said they were on their way to Egume when the incident happened and would give detail as soon as they are back.
