Supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogun state on Thursday clashed in Ifo local government area, leaving one dead and scores injured.
It was gathered that a supporter of APM had killed an APC stalwart having hit the victim with a vehicle when the APC were holding a mega rally in Ifo LGA ahead of the governorship and house of assembly elections in the state.
The development, according to a witness, sparked off violence as supporters of both parties clashed which led to scores of them sustaining varying degrees of injury.
Reacting to the incident, an APC stalwart and Deputy Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Olukunle Oluomo said the incident occurred shortly after they had held a peaceful rally and were returning to his constituency office for merriment.
Oluomo said “Our members allowed the APM members who were in some vehicles to pass without hindrance only for one of them to knock one of our members down.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat with our correspondent.
Oyeyemi said the Police had arrested 10 suspects in connection with the crisis.
He said the driver has been arrested and the bus with which was used to kill the deceased has also been impounded.
