At least one person was killed and two others injured in a clash between two rival groups of political thugs in Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Babaura is the home town of Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
The incident occurred at the commissioning of the N3.9 billion township road in the local government embarked upon by the state government.
However, the spokesman of the state police command, ASP Zubairu Aminuddeen, said no life was lost but confirmed that persons sustained injuries in the fracas.
He gave the names of those injured as Sadisu Mohammed, Abubakar Mahmud, among others.
He said normalcy had since been restored in Babura as the police were on top of the situation.
Daily Trust reports that, the fracas, seen as a dress rehearsal of who takes control of the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2023 election, was believed to have reignited the age-long rivalry between Babura and Gumel Local Government Areas.
Witnesses said the quarrel between the two warring parties had come a long way in the history of both Gumel and Babura ancient cities in the state.
