One dead, 2,000 displaced by flood in Katsina

A 13-year-old boy, Abba Hashimu, has died just as about a 100  houses collapsed as a result of a heavy down pour that lasted for hours in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Aminu Waziri, during the presentation of relief materials to the victims said Hashimu died when the wall of their house fell on him.

He said about 2,000 persons were displaced and that government was concerned over the incidence and prayed for the repose of the deceased.

However, the head of Local Government, Hajiya Umma Abdullahi Mahuta, called on the Federal Government to come to the aid of the displaced persons to cushion their losses from the incident.
