Ondo youths urge Gov Aiyedatiwa to address rising insecurity

The youth in Ondo State, operating under the Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN), have called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to make the security of lives and property a top priority.

Their demand follows a recent surge in violent incidents, including the killing and abduction of passengers on the Ifon road in Ose LGA.

Over the weekend, armed bandits attacked a vehicle on the Ifon road, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the abduction of several members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

This attack has intensified concerns about the rising security challenges in the state.

In a statement on Sunday, OSYN expressed grave concerns about the increasing kidnappings and killings in the area.

The statement, signed by coordinator Afe Ezekiel and spokesman Christopher Olusa, called for urgent measures from both state and federal governments to address the menace.

The youths also demanded the immediate deployment of a joint task force that includes the Nigeria Police Force’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Amotekun Corps, and the Nigerian Army to the affected areas.

They also emphasised the need for technological solutions, such as surveillance drones, to enhance security efforts.

They criticized the current lack of government intervention, which they believe has left communities like Ifon vulnerable and in a state of desperation.

The group has called for the creation of a special security committee to address the issue and ensure the immediate release of kidnapped individuals.

The statement also warned that if their demands are not met, OSYN would mobilise members and collaborate with other youth organisations to protest until the government takes necessary action.
