The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo state chapter, has expressed its worry over the recent form of both the Sunshine Stars and Sunshine Queens in the 2023/2024 pro-league season.
This came as Sunshine Stars FC of Akure entered into the relegation zone on the log of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The team is currently sitting 18th on the log following the defeat by Shooting Stars FC in Ibadan on Sunday.
The association expressed its dismay in a statement issued by its chairman, Segun Giwa and secretary, Joseph Adesuyan, in Akure, the state capital, Monday.

It also explained that its worry became glaring after the ‘Owena Whales’ lost to Shooting Stars in a 2-0 away in a southwest derby, stressing that Sunshine Stars are currently 18th on the league table with 36 points.
The association noted that the football club is currently battling relegation while the female team, Sunshine Queens are already relegated from the top flight of Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL).
“SWAN in Ondo State calls for urgent steps to be taken to salvage Sunshine Stars from relegating from the Nigeria Premier Football League.
“While thanking the commissioner for youths and sports development, Mr Saka Yusuf Ogunleye for the steps taken over the short period he assumed office, he has been urged to do all that is possible to save the team from relegation,” the statement read.
