Ondo nurses protest half salary payment

Some members of the Ondo state chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) on Monday staged a protest in Akure to express their anger over half payment of salaries to workers by the state government.

The nurses who said they cannot be working on empty stomach are already mobilising to embark on indefinite strike action over the decision of the state government to pay them half salary for the month of November 2020.

Some aggrieved members of the union marched to the venue of the state executive committee meeting on Monday with placards in their hands.

They claimed that their leaders have compromised hence they stressed the need for their leaders to direct members to go on strike.

This is coming one week after doctors under the auspices of Ondo Government Doctors Forum (OGDF) began an indefinite strike action.

The aggrieved nurses chased out labour leaders who were at the meeting to mediate in the crisis rocking the union.

The aggrieved nurses also expressed their readiness to pull out of the Joint Health Workers Union.

Sources at the meeting said It took the intervention of security operatives and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress led by comrade Sunday Adeleye to calm the situation.
