The Ondo State government has placed a total ban on the activities of commercial motorcycle operators on the Ore expressway, in the Odogbo local government area of the state.

The government said that by the directive, the operation of the okada riders, as they are widely known, had been restricted to the internal areas of Ore town and other internal communities.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, in a statement yesterday, said the government had observed “with serious concern, the activities of some unscrupulous elements who have hidden under the guise of engaging in motorcycle business, popularly known as okada, to perpetrate crime on the Ofosu-Ajebamidele route along the Ore expressway.”

The statement further said that the government, disturbed by the activities of the “okada” criminals in activities that included armed robbery, kidnapping and loss of lives, had placed a total ban on their operation with immediate effect.

The government had mandated the police to arrest anyone who flouted the order, while also calling for the cooperation of the masses on the issue.
