Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has formed transition committees for the newly established 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs), following the postponement of local council elections by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC).
Each committee comprises seven members tasked with overseeing local governance until elections are held.
Aiyedatiwa’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, announced the move while also addressing concerns that were raised over the delineation of LCDAs, stating the government is reviewing community feedback for necessary adjustments.
However, Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in the November 16 election, criticized Aiyedatiwa for appointing caretaker committees instead of conducting elections, labeling the appointments as illegal and a disregard for democratic principles.

Ajayi emphasized that the PDP had challenged the creation of LCDAs in court and accused the government of sidestepping legal procedures.
The creation of LCDAs had recently faced legal setbacks, with the Akure Division of the Ondo State High Court nullifying their establishment. Ajayi reiterated the PDP’s stance on electoral processes, urging corrective measures to align with constitutional provisions and judicial rulings.
