The council’s General Manager, Mrs Idowu Akinbulumo, said this in Akure in an interview while assessing the council’s performance in 2013.
Akinbulumo said inadequate funding prevented many of the associations from participating in many competitions.
The general manager said that in spite of the funding challenge, the state still made appreciable impact at national and international competitions it took part in.
“We did well in the ones we participated in and some of our athletes represented the country in table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling and came back with laurels.
“If I were to rate our performance in 2013, I will say that we scored 75 percent and I believe we will improve on that in 2014.
“The funding problem did not only affect Ondo State as some states pulled out of the recent National Youth Games in Abuja,’’  she said.
Akinbulumo noted that the state did not achieve much at the games but said that participating in it was important.
Also speaking, Dotun Omoniyi, the Coach of  Ondo State Table Tennis Association, rated the performance of the association  at 95 percent in the outgoing year.
Omoniyi expressed the  hope that there would be more activities for the association in 2014 for it to improve on its 2013 achievements. (NAN)
