Ondo 2024: NNPP petitions INEC over impersonation of guber candidate

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has raised concerns over the impersonation of its governorship candidate, Gbenga Edema and his running mate, Rotimi Adeyemi, ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State.

In a petition addressed to the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, NNPP leaders, Ajuji Ahmed and Dipo Olayoku accused Akintan Michael and Kemi Fasua of impersonating their candidates.

The petition, which was obtained by journalists in Akure, calls for swift legal action against the alleged impersonators.

Part of the statement reads, “We wish to bring to your attention the impersonation of the NNPP governorship and deputy governorship candidates in the upcoming election. Akintan Michael, an engineer, and Mrs. Kemi Fasua, claiming to be our candidates, are unknown to the party.”

The NNPP leadership emphasised that this breach of the 2022 electoral act needed immediate intervention. They confirmed that INEC had been duly notified of Edema and Adeyemi’s candidature during a substituted primary held on June 5, 2024, following the withdrawal of the previous candidates, Oluwatosin Ayeni and Abigail Omoyugbo, for personal reasons.
