On the lost of cultural norms by our youths

But our cultural heritage that is being esteemed globally is threatened by the adoption of western lifestyles by our youths. The youths put on outfits that depict them as crazy. The males adopt different kinds of hairdos and put on ear rings. The females dress in very outrageous manners that are sexually provocative to the opposite sex. This trend, am afraid if not checked on time, will render whatever cultural gains our country has made useless.

The saying that we are in a free world does not indicate that we must swallow the retrogressive ideas of the western culture. Perhaps, such people think that aping the west would earn them esteem and recognition.

Several times, motions have been raised by some lawmakers in the National Assembly to fashion out policies on the nation’s dress code. But the motions have never succeeded. Is it possible our government is being overindulgent? Otherwise, national policies should have been formulated to checkmate these trends.

Parents are also culpable in undermining our cultures and tradition. They expose their children early in life to the absurd western lifestyle. It is our collective responsibility as a society to work together to address this social malaise.
