In lieu of the spread of Omicron COVID-19 variant, the Nigeria Medical Association yesterday urged government at all levels to institute travel restrictions against countries that could lead to more spread of the variant in the country.
NMA President, Innocent Ujahm, made the call in Abuja while briefing newsmen about the 2021 national executive council meeting of the association in Sokoto, with the theme ‘Emerging and Re-emerging Infections: The Continuous Evolution of the Trio of Lassa, Ebola and COVID-19 Disease.”

He said there was need to institute more rigorous and continuous surveillance systems and international health travel measures.
He said the travel restriction should be based on clinical assessment and scientific evidence on number of cases.
“If any country is found to pose a threat to Nigeria, its citizens should be restricted from coming in,” he said.
