The Sports Pillar in Cross River State, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu who is the spiritual leader of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star has consolidated on his sports sponsorship.
His sports coordinator and adviser for an event tagged 1918 Centenary Celebration, Archbishop Tom Inyang-Akpan said the spiritual leader will again sponsor youth football tournament for the 11 political wards of Biase LGA of the state with mouthwatering prizes.
Early last year, the sports pillar sponsored a month long Taekwando and Table Tennis Championships for Primary and secondary schools children and other groups where the national leaderships of the associations graced in Calabar.
The Archbishop who spoke to journalists through a member of the sports committee, Mr Otong E. Otong said already different youth football groups have been identified and registered for the tournament.
Otong said the tournament will come up next week at different centres and the finalists will lock horns at the Abraham Ordia stadium inside the University of Calabar.
Last year December in a similar contest the spiritual leader upped the prize money to One Million Naira each to the eventual winners.
Otong said the essence of the youth football tournament is to foster peace and unity amongst the Cross River communities.
Other sporting activities such as track and field, swimming, indoor games, table tennis, scrabble, basket ball have been lined up this December to mark the Centenary Celebration of the founder of the spiritual organization.
