The General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Dr. Daniel K. Olukoya and the founder of Zenith Bank PLC, Mr. Jim Ovia alongside other alumni of the University of Lagos (Unilag) would be conferred with honorary doctorate degree at the University’s 50th convocation.
UNILAG’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe told newsmen on Wednesday at a press briefing heralding the convocation ceremony scheduled to commence from April 1-5, 2019 that the former federal commissioner for works and housing, Mr. Lateef Okunnu (SAN) would also be conferred with honorary doctorate degree of the University.
Professor Ogundipe disclosed that the University will graduate 12,811 undergraduates and post-graduate students during the 50th convocation ceremony.
According to him, 7,406 of the graduating students will get their first degrees or diploma while 5,405 will receive their post graduates degrees.
Giving a break down, he said 271 graduating students bagged first class degrees out of which 56 were from the Faculty of Engineering; 2,277 in the second class upper category; 3,116 in the second class lower category; 1,197 in third class category; 131 in pass while 414 in degrees or diploma that were not classified.
In the post graduate category, the Don said that the University will be awarding 150 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.d) degrees; 4,771 Masters Degree and 484 Post-Graduate diplomas.
He further disclosed that the best graduating students were Ekeh Ogechi Joedicta from the Faculty of Pharmacy; Oluwaseyi Adeniyi and Ogechi Daniel Chinaedum from the Faculty of Management Sciences who finished with a Cumulative Grade Point Average CGPA of 4.96
While he congratulated the graduating students for braving the odds to complete their programmes; he noted that Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo would deliver the convocation lecture titled: ‘Nigeria Rising: The path to prosperity’.
Other programmes to feature at the convocation include: exhibition, Chancellors reception, Unilag Alumni Association edutainment, Alumni reception and convocation play.
