Olofin, emeritus BUK professor, dies at 80

An emeritus Professor of Geography at Bayero University Kano (BUK), Emmanuel Ajayi Olofin, is dead.

The deceased, who hailed from Ijero in Ekiti state, died on Tuesday at the age of 80.

Before his death, Olofin lectured at the BUK Geography Department, where he rose through the ranks.

He studied at the both University of Ibadan, where he bagged BSc in Geography, Msc at Universiti Malaya, Malaysia and his PhD also in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He lectured at various institutions including University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Universiti Malaya and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He was a member, International Geographical Union; member, Malayan Geological Society, 1970-72; member British

Geomorphological Research Group 1985-date; member, American Geographical Union, since 1990; Student Member, Geological Society of Malaysia; President, Idon Ekiti Catholic Community.

He won Commonwealth Scholarship Malaysian Award, 1970-1972; USAID Grant for Interfaith Dialogue, 1991; British Council Visitorship to England, 1987.
