The 1991 set of the students of the Federal Government College, Minna, have organised capacity-enhancing training for teachers in the college to keep them abreast with the use of modern technologies in teaching.
The training, which was tagged “Effective Classroom Management and Changing Teaching Strategy”, was held at the college.
The Chairperson of the association, Amina L. Musa, said the capacity training was part of their plans to give back to their alma mater as the set celebrated its 30th anniversary.
The Lead Facilitator, and Director of Quality Assurance and Productivity, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Adai Sooliman Ibrahim, lamented that teachers in Nigeria are not well equipped and underpaid.
He said if teachers are well trained, and well paid, it would lead to improvement in education in Nigeria.
Professor Ibrahim underscored the importance of utilisation of new media technologies and social media platforms especially Facebook and WhatsApp by teachers in teaching and learning.
A Co-Facilitator, Mallam Suleiman Ndako, Director of Research and Development, Niger State College of Education, Minna, said there was need to change the strategy of teaching in Nigerian schools in order to produce young adults with innovative minds to proffer solutions to numerous challenges facing the country.
