Old students give GDSS Minna face-lift

Fortune smiled on the Government Day Secondary School, Minna when the 1992 set of the old students association decided to save its dilapidated structures.

The school, which had birthed the high and mighty in the society, was becoming a shadow of itself when the 1992 set came to its rescue with renovation and construction of more structures.

Speaking during the reunion, award presentation and commissioning of the projects executed by the set, the Chairman of the group, who was represented by Adamu Umar Aliyu, said the dilapidated  infrastructure in the school was in dire need of prompt attention.

Some of the projects executed according to the Chairman include the renovation of two high rise classrooms, refurbishing of two staff rooms, renovation of the school administrative block and electrical fittings, renovation of the school library, construction of six VIP compartment toilets and the construction of perimeter fencing.

Aliyu  said that the projects executed so far cost them over N20 million, which was contributed by  members.

The association also promised to carry out other projects in order to ensure a complete overhaul of infrastructure in the school.

Some of the planned projects are; reroofing of the two high-rise classrooms, construction of motorised borehole and installation of overhead tank, rehabilitation of the school bus, construction of a standard school clinic among others.

The Chairman, therefore, appealed to its members and other sets that graduated from the school to join hands so as to actualise the projects.

The Commissioner for Education, Hajia Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, while commending the effort of the group called on other stakeholders in the education sector to emulate the group saying such efforts will definitely change the face of education in the state.

The highlight of the event was the recogntion and presentation of awards to the old teachers and members who have contributed immensely to the school.
