The Torino loanee has entered the history books as the first player with a Nigerian passport to win the prestigious accolade since the award was introduced for the 2016-2017 season.

Aina’s spectacular strike against West Brom on November 2 fought off competition from Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, Southampton duo Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse, Brighton & Hove’s Solly March and Leeds United’s Raphinha to claim the prize.
