A former presidential spokesman, Dr Doyin Okupe, on Wednesday, announced his withdrawal from the 2023 presidential race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said he was quitting the race to back the South East to produce the next president in the interest of fairness, equity and justice.

Okupe while announcing his decision at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, Abeokuta, Ogun State, said he and his supporters would be supporting the candidacy of a former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, to fly the PDP ticket in next year’s election.
He also asked all other aspirants from the South–Chief Dele Momodu, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to declare their support for Obi’s candidacy.
